About the Event
"Who controls culture and what is the effect on society and individual? Multimedia sculptor and conceptual artist Philip A. Robinson Jr. raises these questions and more in his exhibit titled, “Old Talks with New Icons” on display July 1-30 at Art at the Cave.
Robinson’s exploration of identity involves careful selection of wood, noting it’s history, symbolism and age. Through much planning, crafting, building and composing, Robinson creates larger than life wood sculptures, often mounted to mirrors which engage the viewer in a reflective dialog that references power paradigms, identity, value, culture, ethnicity and marketing.
From his artist statement: “Through thoughtful selection of materials and the science of dendrochronology... his work accentuates aesthetic and historic patterns between self and the world, with socio-political undertones.”
